Making the right noise for a return to Plough Lane

11 February 2020

Marcus Mumford, the lead singer of the band Mumford & Sons, today added a little extra glitz to the campaign behind the Plough Lane Bond.

Marcus is one of a number of stars that have come out to back the scheme.

The Bond, which is administered and offered by the Dons Trust, is looking to raise £5m by this Friday to help cover the remaining costs of the move back to Plough Lane. At 5.00pm today, the amount raised was over £3.4 million.

Marcus is due to be interviewed by Gordon Smart on Radio X in the next couple of days with the focus all on the Bond. He is positively buzzing about the Bond and recorded a quick message for the AFC Wimbledon website. "Absolutely anyone can get involved with the Plough Lane Bond. I can't wait to sing the first live song at Plough Lane. So get involved. Get the Bond. And Bring the Dons home,” he said.

Multi-award winning actor Alun Armstrong and his son Joe – a well-known actor in his own right – are no strangers to the Cherry Red Records Stadium and they too also back the scheme, indeed Alun has already invested in it. He said: “Let’s get our club back to Plough Lane. Please help us. Join me and invest in the Bond.”

Samuel West, star of stage and screen, is another life-long Dons fan. He added: “I can't imagine going to watch Wimbledon at Plough Lane again without tearing up. A football club belongs to its community, and now, finally, it's time to return to that community.

“The AFC Wimbledon story is extraordinary. We're delighted to be part of that, but it's not over, and we mustn't pretend it is. We have one last push to get us back to Plough Lane - this has got to be the last chapter in the story. We need to raise £5m through the Plough Lane Bond by the middle of February.

“I'm delighted to help out, and to be an asset of the collective. I think that's how we must all think of ourselves now. We're lucky, as actors, to regularly be a part of something which is bigger than the sum of its parts. It's the same if you're in a band or an orchestra—the same feelings. We can now do that, not just as Wimbledon fans, but as football fans. Together we can do something amazing."

The Plough Land Bond offers annual returns of up to 4%. Minimum investment starts from £1k with loans running for five, ten and twenty-year terms. Your capital is at risk. Please see the website www.ploughlanebond.com for full terms and conditions and risk factors.
