Build a memorial to honour the workers who lost their lives building the stadiums

The Issue

On November 27th 2013, I lost my father in an accident at Arena Corinthians, the stadium built in São Paulo for the World Cup. He was killed after a crane gave way and ripped off part of the metal roof of the stadium - the metal structure fell over my father. The tragedy turned my family's life upside down. The joy and dreams that poured from our house were buried with my father, who worked to build the stadium.

I decided to start this petition to ask for a memorial to the workers that died for the World Cup. I was devastated when I watched the opening ceremony and didn't hear a single mention to the workers that gave their lives to build those stadiums. These warriors were also a part of the World Cup.

FIFA and the government need to remember that behind this massive event, there are families suffering the loss of their loved ones. This is why I am asking for a monument in remembrance to the deceased workers. The best place would be in front of Arena Corinthians, to show visitors the importance of these men in making the World Cup possible.

My dad and the other workers would be happy with this memorial. All I can do for my father now is pray for his soul and help him be remembered for what he did during his time among us.
